Forced to re-evaluate everything she's ever known about the Wilcox witches, Angela begins to explore the powerful connection that binds her to Connor Wilcox, despite the generations of hostility between their families and the disapproval of those closest to her. And when a dark, malignant force arises, Angela knows she must draw on her growing powers as prima to protect enemies and allies alike...even if her choice threatens to tear her new and fragile love apart.

Darknight is the second book in the trilogy that begins the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series. Angela McAllister is the young leader, or prima, of the McAllister witch clan from Jerome, Arizona. The book opens where the previous one left off - Angela has been kidnapped by the rival Wilcox witch clan because Damon Wilcox, the Wilcox primus who dabbles in dark magic, planned on bonding her to him. It turns out that his younger brother Connor is her fated consort, but Damon still plans on trying to harness the prima’s powers to his benefit. Angela and Connor have their own issues to work through, and Angela has to deal with her clan, unhappy to have their prima staying in Wilcox territory. Through all of it, Damon and his unknown plans are there in the background.Although it was good to finally see Angela be with her consort, after the build-up of the search in the last book, and to have her set a stronger stance with her clan, there were some things that just don’t make sense. The book opens the morning after she has been kidnapped right out of her bedroom. Although she’s able to get a message out telling where she is and that she’s safe, her clan members seem to too easily give up on getting her back. While she recognizes the consort bond she has with Connor (which is a fated bond that can’t be fought), she seemed too willing to stay in enemy territory without keeping in contact with her family. I could deal with her being willing to fully accept that Connor is her consort and that he’s not evil as she’s always been taught that the Wilcoxes are, but it seemed a little much for her to agree to go to a Christmas potluck at the house of the man who kidnapped her with all of the other complicit family members.
In all, I did enjoy the book, although this one also ends in a cliffhanger. I prefer books that are complete with a resolution at the end. I would have bought the last book in the trilogy on the merits of the overall story, not just because the story was unfinished.

Darknight Witches of Cleopatra Hill Series Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Christine Pope Hollie Jackson Tantor Audio Books Reviews
i love the main character and really like the fact that she and her love are willing to go against both factions in order for their love to survive and thrive, but i seriously didn't expect her to just give up on escaping, falling so deeply in love and relocating so soon after being kidnapped. Holding out and playing hard to get for a bit longer would have been good but o well, i guess all the years of dreaming about someone and finally meeting them can change one's perspective drastically. The clan elder turning to a skinwalker simply to get a hold of the main character was epic and just shows that we do anything to get what we want sometimes and that such decisions can lead to death.
I like the writing style, and the scenes were well written, but I can't help but feel that the heroine has completely abandoned her family in a little snit. Her consort isn't accepted by the clan so she simply stays away from home. She's the leader of a witch clan who leaves her clan on multiple holidays to fend for themselves. She supposedly holds the most power but holds it back from her family by not insisting that they put up with her decision (or fate as the author would have it). I'll probably read the 3rd book, but if it follows suit, I'll not go on to book 4.
This book is not nearly as interesting as the first or last one but worth trudging through to get the complete story. At times it felt pointless, repeated sex and conflicts. The constant sex was such a change from the first book that it shocked me at first but I got used to it. The beginning and end are decent but the middle drags on so long without anything important happening. I actually skimmed a lot of the middle just to get to where something would happen. The ending made up for it somewhat but there was too much description of the mundane.
Mostly I write review for the really fantastic or the truly bad. This one I'm jus gonna stop at 33% . There will be spoilers, so u've been warned. I find this book frustrating.
1. At the end of bk 1, she was kidnapped.
2. So the Primus' brother is her consort & she's locked/trapped in his (very nice) apartment.
3. Thus starts a so called, "getting to know U" period of the book, which encompasses just a few days. 3 i think, at most 4.
4. Y'all she does 1 thing right. 1 thing! He leaves her alone in his apartment to go to work so the very 1st day she uses his laptop to send her family an email. Then NOTHI.G!?! else for days. The scary brother shows up once cus her family confronts him bout her abduction.
5. This chick/character makes no further attempt at escape. Remember she's been raised on Wilcox as the evil villains and all her previous experiences confirmed that. So even if the younger bro is ok, he's not Primus & didn't stop his brothers plans for her, what he's even privy too.
6. So yes she's fighting this bond, but she could have contacted her Aunt, who now realizing her niece is gone would chk her emails faithfully now right? Yet says her Aunt never does, as if that won't change. But she can still Tell her Connor has an art gallery, they know his name so see if they can find it. Tell her Aunt what she sees out the window. Try to get people's attention maybe.
7. Find out from Connor what the big picture is, their plans for her power. Cus Damon's in charge & he's not a good guy.
8. She has an opportunity to leave when he's bringing in a Christmas tree & the doors ajar. She recognizes it but doesn't take it. Is this not improbable even if she's developing feelings for Connor. Common sense says, get away, get to ur clan safe, then pursue the consort bond in a neutral territory.
9. So what do y'all think happens, know this too, her Prima power supposedly goes to the clan whose territory she's in when the bond is consummated. So tell me, what do ya think happens?
10. Exactly, and the very next thing they talk bout , after saying the 3 little words to each other of course, going to the Wilcox clan gathering at the crazy Primus' house. As if now the deed is done, forget bout ur clan & family, it's assimilation time.
Maybe the author plans to have her rescued & back with her people while trying to figure out the bond thing, but y'all, I'm not gonna find out. Angela's character has been lied too, threatened & kidnapped, but wouldn't a sheltered girl be even more frantic to get away. Her reactions are (repeat word choice here) improbable! This plot contrivance is too annoying to finish for me.
